Ryan Mckinley is…
…the proudly passionate owner and top stylist to his namesake, Ryan M Scottsdale. Working over 20 years in the beauty industry, his journey began at 18 by leaving his hometown of Salt Lake City, Utah with big dreams and a full heart to embark on his beauty career. His acceptance into the esteemed Vidal Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica, California propelled him into the most sought-after assistant program in Beverly Hills where he mentored under Hollywood’s most elite celebrity stylists of the time.
After spending 3 years in California, he moved back home to open his first salon which doubled in size in two years. In 5 years, it was awarded the number one salon in Salt Lake City and featured in New Beauty Magazine as one of the 10 best salons in the USA! During this time Ryan became a platform artist for Tony and Guy as well as educating for some of the best brands in the business.
At the 7-year mark, he had conquered the beauty industry of Utah and was ready for something bigger. On a winter vacation to visit friends in Scottsdale, everything fell into place. Chance had it, during this trip, Ryan was randomly introduced to the owner of Scottsdale’s busiest salon at the time. The owner was exceptionally talented with a robust clientele. He happened to be in search of someone with the total package; personality and skill, to take on his clients as his equal and become his colorist. Ryan partnered with the owner, then sold his salon in Utah and moved his family to Scottsdale. The next 10 years flew by in a blink. Over that time, he learned not only how to be the top stylist to Scottsdale’s most elite, but how to be a successful businessman while making the most money possible working behind the chair. Ryan learned the importance of working with an assistant and double booking to maximize himself. During the course of those ten years, he trained 7 assistants who have gone on to become masters of their craft as well. After the owner’s sudden passing, Ryan felt it was time to start out again on his own with all of his wisdom and experience to create Ryan M. Scottsdale.
